The Art department is run by outstanding specialist staff

They energise and inspire children with the same passion for art as has inspired them. Each child does at least one hour of art a week and they cover a range of disciplines from drawing, painting and printing to sculpture.
The children’s artwork is displayed around the school.

Art clubs and workshops galore

There are invitational drawing clubs for both the Lower and Upper School aimed at extending children who show potential, as well as an Arts and Crafts club which is open to all.
In addition to this, the school invites practising artists to come and talk to the children about their practice and to run workshops. In recent years we have had a brilliant success rate with talented children achieving Art Scholarships for their future schools.

numerous VISITS TO MUSEUMS AND EXHIBITIONs THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR

Children’s artwork is entered into competitions, providing the opportunity to see selected artworks exhibited in some wonderful spaces, such as the Royal College of Art and Saatchi Gallery.
We have close links with galleries and arrange regular trips for the children to traditional and contemporary exhibitions. World Arts Day is held in school biannually and is a wonderful celebration of all things artistic.
Original artwork hangs in every classroom and every corridor. We believe this immersion in Art feeds the children’s imagination and senses.

art competitions

Every week we commend artistic achievements of children by awarding an Art of the Week certificate in assembly. There are also regular photography competitions.

Each child enters a piece of artwork into the Royal College of Art Young Art Competition. The winning art from each age group is exhibited. The children's artwork is also regularly displayed at the Saatchi Gallery.

World Arts Day

This is one of the highlights of the Arts calendar at Garden House and is celebrated across the School with total staff and pupil involvement.

Numerous cultural workshops take place. These can involve anything from Indian dance, junk orchestra, stop-motion animation, coral making, planet poetry, recycled sculpture, fashion shows, and Scottish Reeling.
